Strelitzia augusta, commonly known as the White Flowered Bird Of Paradise or Cape Wild Banana, is a popular plant due to its beautiful foliage and interesting flowers. In the home garden it typically grows to just 2 m tall and 1.5 m wide, and even smaller when grown in a pot indoors. The white flowers are borne throughout the year once the plant reaches a mature size, but are rarely produced when grown indoors. Best results with this Bird Of Paradise are achieved when it is grown on a well-drained, sheltered site in full sun or partial shade. It is tolerant of dry periods and must be protected from frost and cold temperatures.
