Senecio cineraria, commonly known as Dusty Miller, is an herbaceous perennial grown for its powdery and soft looking, grey foliage. The leaves are complemented with small, yellow flowers in summer. It grows with a rounded shape to about 40 cm tall and 60 cm wide, performing best when positioned in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is hardy to moderate frost once established as well as short periods of dry. Senecio cineraria is well suited to including in borders and mixed plantings, maintaining in a container, including in cottage or Mediterranean gardens, or for planting around outdoor living areas such as pools and barbecue areas. Landscape designers will often use the grey colouring of this plant to contrast with darker plants. It is a quick growing and very rewarding plant.
