Senecio 'Angel Wings'

How to grow Senecio 'Angel Wings' in NZ

Senecio 'Angel Wings' grows best in New Zealand when planted in full sun or partial shade and free-draining soil. This striking plant with soft, silver foliage is drought-tolerant once established and ideal for pots, borders, and coastal gardens. Water sparingly and avoid wet soils to prevent root rot. Trim off any damaged leaves to maintain a fresh look and feed lightly with a balanced fertiliser in spring and summer. Protect from heavy frosts in colder regions.

Senecio 'Angel Wings' care tips

Senecio 'Angel Wings' is easy to care for with the right conditions. Place it in a sunny or partially shaded spot with free-draining soil and water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry between waterings. Avoid waterlogged conditions, as the roots can rot. Remove any damaged or older leaves to keep the plant looking tidy and healthy. Feed with a general-purpose fertiliser during the growing season, and protect from heavy frost in cooler areas of New Zealand.

Senecio 'Angel Wings' size, spacing, and growth rate

Senecio 'Angel Wings' typically reaches about 30 cm tall and 40 cm wide in suitable conditions. Allow about 40 cm between centres for separate specimens, leaving room for mature foliage and good airflow. It has a moderate growth rate under suitable conditions. Use the mature spread as a guide when planting beside paths, walls, or neighbouring plants. Containers can limit overall size, so choose a pot that supports healthy root development. Check the developing plant regularly and adjust surrounding planting as needed.

Landscaping uses for Senecio 'Angel Wings'

Use Senecio 'Angel Wings' for flower borders, mixed containers, and colourful patio displays. Position it where its natural form can be appreciated and allow sufficient space for mature growth. Combine it with plants that enjoy similar light, soil, and watering conditions for a practical and cohesive display. Place it near contrasting foliage so its shape stands out clearly in the planting. A small group can connect separate parts of the garden without making the design feel crowded.
