Salvia Purple, commonly known as Autumn Sage or Purple Sage, is an herbaceous perennial grown for its rich display of flowers through summer and autumn. It produces long and slender flower spikes carrying small, purple flowers which sit neatly above the lush, mid-green foliage. It typically grows to 75 cm tall and the same wide, performing best when positioned on a well-drained, sheltered site in full sun. Purple Sage is commonly included in herb gardens, mixed plantings, cottage gardens, borders, or simply grown in a container.

Salvia Purple Details

Salvia Purple, commonly known as Autumn Sage or Purple Sage, is an herbaceous perennial grown for its rich display of flowers through summer and autumn. It produces long and slender flower spikes carrying small, purple flowers which sit neatly above the lush, mid-green foliage. The flowers are great for attracting butterflies and birds. All parts of the plant are aromatic and produce a lovely fragrance when crushed or brushed against. It typically grows to 75 cm tall and the same wide, performing best when positioned on a well-drained, sheltered site in full sun. It hardy to moderate frost once established but does require good levels of soil moisture during dry periods. Purple Sage is commonly included in herb gardens, mixed plantings, cottage gardens, borders, or simply grown in a container. A mass planting suits this plant and gives a very rewarding display.
