How to grow Philodendron selloum in NZ

Philodendron selloum grows best in a warm sheltered position with bright light or partial shade. Plant into fertile free draining soil enriched with organic matter. It can be planted year round in warmer regions of New Zealand, while spring planting is preferred in cooler areas. Water regularly during establishment and through summer. Protect from heavy frost and cold winds to ensure healthy growth and strong foliage development.

Philodendron selloum care tips

Philodendron selloum is easy to care for once established. Water consistently during dry periods but avoid waterlogged soil. Apply a general fertiliser in spring and summer to support strong leaf growth. Remove old or damaged leaves to keep plants tidy and encourage fresh growth. Mulching around the base helps retain moisture and protect roots. In colder regions, extra protection may be required during winter.

Philodendron selloum size, spacing, and growth rate

Philodendron selloum typically grows to around 1.5 to 2 metres tall with a similar spread over time. It has a moderate to fast growth rate in warm conditions. Space plants at least 1.5 metres apart to allow for mature size and airflow. Given the right conditions, this plant quickly develops into a bold feature with impressive foliage and strong presence.
