Salvia confertiflora, commonly known as Red Velvet Sage, is grown for its rich display of flowers from summer through autumn. It produces slender, red spikes carrying small, red flowers. The flower stalk is covered with red-brown velvet like hairs. The flowers sit neatly above the mid-green foliage and are great for attracting butterflies and birds. It typically grows to 1 m tall and the same wide, performing best on a well-drained, sheltered site in full sun. It is frost hardy once established and does require good levels of moisture during dry periods.
