Rubus parvus

Mountain Lawyer, Creeping Lawyer, Ground Lawyer

Commonly known as Mountain Lawyer, this is an evergreen creeper with thorny stems and leaves. It features long and narrow, green leaves that have prickly edges, and develops purple-red tones during winter. It produces small, white flowers through spring which result in red, raspberry-like berries. The plants are either male or female, so one of each must be present for the berries to form. It typically grows to 20 cm tall with a spread of 1 m, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of dry periods, frost, and cool climates. The Mountain Lawyer is used in native revegetation plantings or to create biodiversity in native areas. Its thorny nature also makes it useful for keeping pests such as deer and rabbits out of areas.
