Physostegia virginiana, commonly known as the Obedient Plant, is an herbaceous perennial grown for its flowers and foliage. It produces upright stems carrying tubular, pink flowers throughout summer. The flowers provide amazing beauty and are great for attracting birds and butterflies. The foliage comprises fine and lush, dark green leaves which sit neatly below the flowers. It is an evergreen in warmer climates but may become deciduous in colder environments where it may die back to regrow again in spring. It typically grows to 1 m tall and 50 cm wide, performing best when planted on a well-drained, sheltered site in full sun.
