Neomarica northiana, commonly known as the Walking Iris, is an herbaceous perennial from Brazil and features impressive foliage and flowers. Through late spring and early summer, it produces tall stems carrying exquisite, Iris-like, flowers that are blue and white. Each flower lasts about a day but they continue to open over several weeks. The flowers are complemented by tall, strap-like, dark green foliage which has a graceful arch. It typically grows to 60 cm tall and the same wide, performing best when grown in a full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of heavier soils, dry periods, cool climates, and frost and may die back during winter but will regrow when conditions warm.
