Golden Lotus Banana

Golden Lotus Banana is the common name for Musella lasiocarpa, an interesting and unusual herbaceous perennial. It features large and broad, paddle-like, mid green leaves which are held upright. Through summer it produces a large and showy, Lotus-like, yellow flower atop a sturdy stem. Each flower is a cluster or tubular, flowers with waxy bracts and lasts for some time. The resulting fruit is inedible. It typically grows to 1.5 m tall and the same wide, performing best when grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site, protected from frosts. Golden Lotus Banana is commonly included in a tropical garden where it is added to a mixed planting as a cluster or grown as a specimen. It also makes for a lovely accent to entranceways and the like.
