Mint Plants

The Mint Plant, also known as Spearmint, is an herbaceous perennial grown for its aromatic foliage. It produces upright stems that carry, small, rounded, dark green leaves on square stems that have the typical mint flavour. From summer through autumn, it produces small, violet-purple flowers on the stems. It typically grows to 30 cm tall and the same wide but will quickly colonise a much larger area via its root system. Mint grows in almost any environment except at the extremes of wet and dry. Depending on the environment it will go dormant during winter or in dry periods to regrow when conditions become more favourable. The Mint plant is commonly included in an herb garden and in this instance should be grown in a container so it can be controlled.
