Lilium 'Dot Com'

How to grow Lilium 'Dot Com' in NZ

Grow Lilium 'Dot Com' in a sunny or lightly shaded position with fertile, well drained soil. Plant bulbs in autumn or spring at a depth around three times their height, with the pointed end facing upward. Improve heavy soils with compost and coarse material to prevent waterlogging around the bulbs. Water thoroughly after planting, then keep the soil evenly moist while new growth develops. A sheltered site with morning sun is ideal. Add mulch to protect the soil and conserve moisture, keeping it clear of emerging stems. Good drainage is essential for healthy bulbs and strong flowering.

Lilium 'Dot Com' care tips

Lilium 'Dot Com' benefits from regular watering while actively growing and flowering, particularly during dry weather. Feed in spring as shoots emerge with a balanced bulb fertiliser, then repeat after flowering to help build strong bulbs for the following season. Stake taller stems if they are exposed to wind. Remove spent flowers, but leave the green stems and leaves in place until they turn yellow naturally, as this feeds the bulb. Keep the bed free of weeds and avoid waterlogged soil. Lift and divide crowded clumps in winter if flowering becomes reduced.

Lilium 'Dot Com' size, spacing, and growth rate

Lilium 'Dot Com' generally grows about 60 cm to 90 cm tall and around 20 cm to 30 cm wide, producing upright stems with several large flowers. Space bulbs approximately 20 cm to 25 cm apart for a full display while allowing room for each stem to develop. Growth is quick from spring emergence, with flowering usually occurring in summer. Planting several bulbs together creates the best visual effect and provides useful height in borders. Lilium 'Dot Com' dies back after flowering and returns from its bulb each year when grown in suitable conditions.

Landscaping uses for Lilium 'Dot Com'

Lilium 'Dot Com' is ideal for sunny borders, cottage style gardens, containers, and cut flower beds. Its upright stems and dramatic spotted flowers bring height and colour to mixed planting schemes, especially when positioned behind lower growing perennials. Plant bulbs in groups for a bold summer display or combine them with silver foliage, white flowers, and deep green leaves for contrast. The blooms are also excellent for indoor arrangements. Lilium 'Dot Com' adds seasonal drama, strong vertical form, and vibrant colour to gardens where flowers are meant to be noticed.
