Hosta 'St Elmo's Fire'

How to grow Hosta 'St Elmo's Fire' in NZ

Hosta 'St Elmo's Fire' grows best in partial shade or full shade with fertile, well drained soil that remains consistently moist. Prepare the soil with compost before planting to improve fertility and moisture retention. Water regularly while the plant establishes and during prolonged dry weather. Apply mulch each spring to help conserve moisture, suppress weeds, and keep the root zone cool for healthy vigorous growth.

Hosta 'St Elmo's Fire' care tips

Hosta 'St Elmo's Fire' is easy to care for with regular watering during dry periods and a spring application of quality slow release fertiliser. Remove damaged or ageing leaves as required and tidy the plant after the foliage naturally dies back in autumn. Watch for slugs and snails during spring when new shoots emerge and protect the fresh foliage if needed.

Hosta 'St Elmo's Fire' size, spacing, and growth rate

Hosta 'St Elmo's Fire' forms a medium sized clump that generally reaches 40 to 50 centimetres tall with a spread of 70 to 90 centimetres.
