Hosta St Elmo’s Fire features lush foliage and pretty flowers. The foliage comprises large and glossy, upright, lime-yellow leaves with a wide, cream margin. In summer, purple, bell like flowers are borne atop short stems which are followed by seed heads that attract birds. This herbaceous perennial will grow to about 50 cm tall and 80 cm wide and in cold climates it may die off during winter to regrow again in spring. It grows best in a full sun or partial shade position on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost and cold climates but should not be allowed to dry out. A mass planting affords an impressive display.
