Hosta 'Pandoras Box' grows best in partial to full shade with moist, well drained soil rich in organic matter. In NZ, it prefers sheltered areas protected from strong sun and drying winds. Improve soil with compost before planting to enhance moisture retention and structure. Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during warmer months. Mulching helps retain moisture and keeps the root zone cool for optimal growth.

Apply a general fertiliser in spring to support healthy growth. Remove any damaged or old leaves to maintain a tidy appearance. Watch for slugs and snails which can damage the foliage. Dividing clumps every few years helps maintain vigour and allows you to expand your planting.
