Hosta 'Guacamole'

How to grow Hosta 'Guacamole' in NZ

Hosta 'Guacamole' thrives in partial shade or full shade with fertile, well drained soil that stays consistently moist. Improve the soil with compost before planting to encourage healthy root development. Water regularly while the plant establishes and during extended dry periods. Apply mulch around the base each spring to conserve moisture, suppress weeds, and keep the roots cool throughout the growing season.

Hosta 'Guacamole' care tips

Hosta 'Guacamole' requires very little maintenance once established. Feed in spring with a quality slow release fertiliser to promote lush foliage and abundant growth. Remove damaged or ageing leaves as required and tidy the plant after the foliage dies back in autumn. Watch for slugs and snails during spring and protect new growth if necessary to keep the leaves looking their best.

Hosta 'Guacamole' size, spacing, and growth rate

Hosta 'Guacamole' forms a large clump that typically reaches 50 to 60 centimetres tall with a spread of 90 to 120 centimetres. It grows steadily each season and becomes more impressive as it matures. Space plants about 90 to 120 centimetres apart to provide room for healthy development, good air circulation, and an attractive display of foliage.

Landscaping uses for Hosta 'Guacamole'

Hosta 'Guacamole' is ideal for woodland gardens, shaded borders, beneath trees, and around ponds where its colourful foliage creates a bold feature. It also performs exceptionally well in large containers for patios and courtyards.
