Heucherella 'Brass Lantern'

How to grow Heucherella 'Brass Lantern' in NZ

Heucherella 'Brass Lantern' grows best in a position with morning sun or partial shade and moist, free draining soil enriched with organic matter. Incorporate compost before planting to improve soil fertility and structure. Water regularly while the plant is establishing and maintain even soil moisture during dry periods. Avoid planting in sites that remain excessively wet, as poor drainage can affect root health. A sheltered location helps maintain vibrant foliage colour and encourages strong growth throughout the year.

Heucherella 'Brass Lantern' care tips

Heucherella 'Brass Lantern' is easy to maintain and requires only minimal care. Remove old or damaged foliage as required to encourage fresh growth and maintain a tidy appearance. Apply a balanced fertiliser during spring to support healthy foliage development. Water during prolonged dry periods, particularly for container grown plants. Mulching around the base helps conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Dividing mature clumps every few years helps maintain vigour and ensures continued strong performance in the garden.

Heucherella 'Brass Lantern' size, spacing, and growth rate

Heucherella 'Brass Lantern' develops a foliage mound about 0.5 m tall and 0.6 m wide, with flower stems reaching approximately 0.7 m. Growth is relatively fast when moisture and growing conditions are favourable. Space plants around 0.6 m apart for a grouped display, allowing each clump room to form its full outline. Use the taller flowering height when placing it near smaller perennials. In containers, provide enough root space and consistent watering to support the vigorous foliage through the growing season.

Landscaping uses for Heucherella 'Brass Lantern'

Heucherella 'Brass Lantern' is ideal for woodland gardens, shaded borders, container displays, and mixed perennial plantings. The warm bronze and copper foliage tones provide excellent contrast against green and silver leaved plants, adding depth and texture to landscape designs. This variety is particularly effective when planted in groups where the foliage colour can be fully appreciated. It also performs well beneath trees, along pathways, and around outdoor living spaces where year round colour and interest are desired.
