Heuchera 'Velvet Night'

How to grow Heuchera 'Velvet Night' in NZ

Heuchera 'Velvet Night' grows best in a position with morning sun or partial shade and moist, free draining soil rich in organic matter. Prepare the soil with compost before planting to improve fertility and structure. Water regularly while the plant is establishing and maintain consistent moisture during extended dry periods. Avoid waterlogged sites, as poor drainage can affect plant health. A sheltered location with protection from intense afternoon sun will help maintain the rich foliage colour and encourage vigorous growth.

Heuchera 'Velvet Night' care tips

Heuchera 'Velvet Night' is easy to maintain and rewards gardeners with outstanding foliage throughout the year. Remove old or damaged leaves as needed to keep the plant looking tidy and healthy. Apply a balanced fertiliser during spring to support strong growth and flowering. Water during prolonged dry weather, particularly for container grown plants. Removing spent flower stems will improve appearance and encourage fresh growth. Dividing mature clumps every few years helps maintain vigour and overall plant performance.

Heuchera 'Velvet Night' size, spacing, and growth rate

Heuchera 'Velvet Night' typically grows to around 0.25 to 0.4 m tall and spreads to approximately 0.4 to 0.5 m wide. It has a moderate growth rate and gradually forms a dense clump of attractive foliage. Space plants about 0.35 to 0.45 m apart when creating borders or mass plantings. Adequate spacing promotes healthy airflow and allows each plant to develop its full shape, resulting in a colourful and visually impressive display throughout the year.
