Heuchera 'Sugar Plum'

How to grow Heuchera 'Sugar Plum' in NZ

Heuchera 'Sugar Plum' grows best in a position with morning sun or partial shade and moist, free draining soil enriched with organic matter. Prepare the soil before planting with compost to improve fertility and drainage. Water regularly while the plant is establishing and maintain consistent moisture during dry periods. Avoid planting in areas that remain excessively wet. A sheltered location helps protect the foliage and encourages strong growth, ensuring the plant maintains its vibrant colouring throughout the year.

Heuchera 'Sugar Plum' care tips

Heuchera 'Sugar Plum' is easy to maintain and requires only basic care. Remove old or damaged leaves as needed to keep the plant looking fresh and attractive. Apply a balanced fertiliser during spring to support healthy foliage growth and flowering. Water during prolonged dry periods, especially for container grown specimens. Mulching around the base helps conserve moisture and reduce weed growth. Dividing mature clumps every few years can improve vigour and ensure continued strong performance in the garden.

Heuchera 'Sugar Plum' size, spacing, and growth rate

Heuchera 'Sugar Plum' typically grows to around 0.25 to 0.4 m tall and spreads approximately 0.4 to 0.5 m wide. It has a moderate growth rate and gradually forms a dense clump of colourful foliage.
