Heuchera 'Ruby Veil'

How to grow Heuchera 'Ruby Veil' in NZ

Heuchera 'Ruby Veil' grows best in a position with morning sun or partial shade and moist, free draining soil enriched with organic matter. Improve the soil before planting with compost to enhance fertility and drainage. Water regularly during establishment and maintain even moisture during dry periods. Avoid sites that remain excessively wet, as poor drainage can affect plant health. A sheltered location helps preserve foliage quality and encourages strong growth, ensuring the plant performs well throughout the year.

Heuchera 'Ruby Veil' care tips

Heuchera 'Ruby Veil' is easy to maintain and requires only simple care. Remove old or damaged leaves as required to keep the plant looking tidy and encourage fresh growth. Apply a balanced fertiliser during spring to support healthy foliage and flowering. Water during prolonged dry periods, particularly for plants grown in containers. Mulching around the base helps retain soil moisture and suppress weeds. Dividing mature clumps every few years will help maintain vigour and keep plants performing strongly.

Heuchera 'Ruby Veil' size, spacing, and growth rate

Heuchera 'Ruby Veil' typically grows to around 0.25 to 0.4 m tall and spreads approximately 0.35 to 0.5 m wide. It has a moderate growth rate and gradually forms a dense mound of colourful foliage. Space plants about 0.35 to 0.45 m apart when creating borders or mass plantings. Providing adequate spacing improves airflow and allows each plant to develop its full shape. The attractive foliage quickly creates visual impact and enhances surrounding plantings.

Landscaping uses for Heuchera 'Ruby Veil'

Heuchera 'Ruby Veil' is ideal for woodland gardens, shaded borders, container displays, and mixed perennial plantings. The rich ruby coloured foliage creates a striking contrast against green and silver leaved plants, adding depth and texture to landscape designs. This variety works particularly well when planted in groups where the foliage colour can be fully appreciated. It is also effective beneath trees, along pathways, and around outdoor living spaces where year round colour and interest are desired.
