Winter Rose, Christmas Rose

Helleborus niger, commonly known as Christmas Rose, is a prized for its stunning white flowers in winter. The foliage is dark green and may or may not be present when the flowers emerge, depending on where it is grown. This herbaceous perennial grows as a clump to about 25 cm tall and 40 cm wide, performing best when planted on a well-drained, sheltered site in full sun and protected from severe frosts. In cold climates it may die back during winter to regrow in spring, otherwise it will remain evergreen. Helleborus niger is an ideal plant for cottage, tropical, and “white” gardens, for mixed and border plantings, or planting for fabulous spring colour. A mass planting provides a truly impressive display.
