Gazania 'Yellow'

How to grow Gazania 'Yellow' in NZ

Gazania 'Yellow' grows best in full sun and free draining soil. Choose a warm, open position where the flowers receive plenty of sunlight for the strongest display. Plant into well prepared soil and water regularly while the roots establish. Once established, plants tolerate dry conditions well and require less frequent watering. Avoid heavy or consistently wet soils, particularly during New Zealand winters. Apply a general garden fertiliser during spring if required. Light mulching can help suppress weeds, but avoid holding excessive moisture around the crown.

Gazania 'Yellow' care tips

Gazania 'Yellow' is easy to maintain once established in a sunny, free draining position. Water during prolonged dry periods, especially when plants are grown in containers, but avoid overwatering. Remove spent flowers regularly to maintain a tidy appearance and encourage continued blooming. Trim away older or untidy foliage when required to promote fresh growth. A light application of general garden fertiliser during spring can support healthy flowering. Keep weeds controlled around the plants and ensure good drainage throughout winter to maintain vigorous growth and reliable garden performance.

Gazania 'Yellow' size, spacing, and growth rate

Gazania 'Yellow' forms a compact, spreading plant that generally reaches around 20 to 30 cm tall and approximately 30 to 40 cm wide. It has a moderate to fast growth rate in warm, sunny conditions and quickly develops into an attractive ground covering display. Space plants approximately 30 to 40 cm apart for borders or mass planting so they can fill out without becoming overcrowded. Its low growing habit makes Gazania 'Yellow' particularly useful for edging, rock gardens, banks, containers, and the front of sunny mixed garden borders.

Landscaping uses for Gazania 'Yellow'

Gazania 'Yellow' is an excellent landscaping plant for bringing bright colour to sunny New Zealand gardens. Its low, spreading habit makes it ideal for edging pathways, filling rock gardens, covering banks, and creating colourful mass plantings. It also performs well in pots and containers around patios and outdoor living areas. The vivid yellow flowers combine beautifully with ornamental grasses, silver foliage, and contrasting ground covers. Gazania 'Yellow' is particularly useful in coastal and dry garden settings where a hardy, colourful, and relatively low maintenance plant is required.
