Fascicularia bicolor

Bromeliad

Fascicularia bicolor is a somewhat rare and colourful Bromeliad. It forms a rosette of long and slender, dark green leaves. In summer, just before the plants flower, the central leaves turn bright red and a cluster of flowers emerges. The cluster comprises masses of small, blue flowers with bright yellow anthers. It typically grows to 50 cm tall and will spread to colonise an area about 1.5 m wide. This Bromeliad grows best in full sun on a well-drained site and will tolerate light frost, dry periods, and coastal environments. This is an interesting plant that is well suited to rock gardens, adding to a mixed planting, growing in a container, or using anywhere it can be appreciated.
