Echinacea Doubledecker, commonly known as the Purple Cone Flower, is an herbaceous perennial renowned for its beautiful flowers through summer and autumn. The flowers are daisy like and made up of magenta-pink petals along with a secondary layer of petals which together surround an orange-brown, central core. They are typically about 10 cm in diameter and the outer petals have a distinct downward arch. Birds will feed on the seeds produced and the flowers themselves attract butterflies and are great as a cut flower. The foliage comprises a mound of coarse, dark green leaves. The plant will typically grow to 75 cm tall and 50 cm wide, performing best on a well-drained, sheltered site in full sun. It will also grow well in partial shade and is tolerant of light frost once established. Echinacea Doubledecker is a great plant for borders, rock gardens, mixed flower gardens, planting beneath larger trees, or mass planting for an impressive display.
