Wide-Leafed Dietes, Forest Iris, Butcher’s Iris
Dietes butcheriana, commonly known as Forest Wild Iris, is a hardy, clump-forming perennial valued for its elegant white to pale yellow flowers with violet and yellow markings. It grows to around 60–90 cm tall and spreads slowly, making it ideal for borders, mass planting, or naturalistic gardens in New Zealand. Thriving in full sun to partial shade, it tolerates light frosts, coastal conditions, and dry spells once established. Its sword-like evergreen foliage adds year-round structure and interest.
