Corydalis 'Porcelain Blue'

How to grow Corydalis 'Porcelain Blue' in NZ

Grow Corydalis 'Porcelain Blue' in part shade or filtered light with fertile, humus rich, free draining soil. Choose a cool sheltered position protected from hot afternoon sun and drying winds. Improve the planting area with compost or well rotted organic matter to help retain moisture without becoming waterlogged. Water after planting and keep the soil evenly moist while the plant establishes, especially during dry weather. A light mulch will help keep the roots cool and conserve moisture. Corydalis 'Porcelain Blue' is ideal for woodland settings and shaded borders with reliable soil moisture.

Corydalis 'Porcelain Blue' care tips

Corydalis 'Porcelain Blue' benefits from regular watering during dry periods, as it prefers cool, evenly moist soil. Feed lightly in spring with compost or a balanced slow release fertiliser to support healthy foliage and flowering. Remove spent flowers to keep the plant tidy and encourage further blooms where conditions allow. Keep the soil mulched with organic material, but avoid covering the crown. If foliage dies back during hot or dry weather, continue to care for the root area and new growth may return when conditions cool. Avoid exposing Corydalis 'Porcelain Blue' to harsh sun or dry soil.

Corydalis 'Porcelain Blue' size, spacing, and growth rate

Corydalis 'Porcelain Blue' typically grows about 25 cm to 35 cm tall and 30 cm to 40 cm wide, forming a soft clump of delicate foliage. Space plants approximately 30 cm to 40 cm apart so each clump has room to develop and receives good air movement. Growth is moderate in cool, moist, sheltered conditions, with plants spreading gradually to create a natural woodland effect. Planting several together provides the best display of blue flowers and textured foliage. Corydalis 'Porcelain Blue' is especially useful for filling shaded spaces where many sun loving plants will not thrive.

Landscaping uses for Corydalis 'Porcelain Blue'

Corydalis 'Porcelain Blue' is ideal for woodland gardens, shaded borders, cottage style gardens, containers, and planting beneath deciduous trees.
