Colocasia 'White Lava'

How to grow Colocasia esculenta 'White Lava' in NZ

Colocasia esculenta 'White Lava' grows best in a warm sheltered position with full sun to partial shade. It prefers rich moist soil that drains well yet retains consistent moisture. In New Zealand gardens it performs strongly through spring and summer when temperatures are warm. Water regularly during dry periods and protect from cold winds to maintain healthy foliage growth.

Colocasia 'White Lava' care tips

Colocasia 'White Lava' benefits from regular feeding during the growing season to support its large foliage. Apply mulch to conserve moisture and keep roots cool, keeping it clear of the stem base. Remove any damaged leaves to maintain a tidy appearance. In cooler regions, lift and store tubers over winter or protect plants from frost to ensure strong regrowth.

Colocasia 'White Lava' size, spacing, and growth rate

Colocasia 'White Lava' typically grows to around 80 centimetres to 1.2 metres tall and about 80 centimetres wide, forming a bold clump of large leaves.
