How to grow Clivia ‘Belgium Hybrid’ in NZ

Plant in a shaded or semi-shaded position in well-draining, humus-rich soil. Avoid direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the leaves. Water sparingly during winter and more frequently in spring and summer when actively growing. Keep soil moist but never waterlogged. Clivia prefers a sheltered spot and thrives in frost-free environments.

Clivia ‘Belgium Hybrid’ care tips

Feed with a slow-release fertiliser in spring and again in late summer to encourage strong foliage and prolific flowering. Remove spent flower stalks at the base to maintain a tidy appearance. Avoid disturbing the roots unnecessarily, as clivia flowers better when slightly pot-bound. Protect from slugs and snails, which can damage leaves.

Clivia ‘Belgium Hybrid’ size, spacing, and growth rate

Reaches 50–70 cm tall with a spread of 40–60 cm. Space plants 40–60 cm apart when mass planting. It grows at a moderate rate and forms clumps that can be divided after several years.
