Canna 'Tropicanna Black'

How to grow Canna 'Tropicanna Black' in NZ

Canna 'Tropicanna Black' grows best in full sun with moist, fertile, well drained soil rich in organic matter. Choose a warm sheltered position protected from strong winds to encourage healthy foliage development and prolific flowering. Adding compost to the soil at planting time improves moisture retention and supports vigorous root growth. Water regularly during warm weather, particularly while plants establish and during extended dry periods. Applying mulch around the base helps conserve moisture, suppress weeds, and maintain warm soil conditions.

Canna 'Tropicanna Black' care tips

Canna 'Tropicanna Black' is relatively low maintenance and rewards gardeners with lush tropical growth and vibrant flowers through the warmer months. Water consistently during dry weather to maintain healthy foliage and strong flowering performance. Feed with a balanced fertiliser during spring and summer to encourage vigorous growth and rich foliage colour. Remove spent flowers regularly to encourage continued blooming and keep plants tidy. In colder regions, cut foliage back after frost and protect rhizomes with mulch through winter.
