Canna Merle Cole bears showy, dark red flowers which are held on a solid stem above the foliage from spring through autumn. The large and upright green leaves complement the flowers nicely. It grows as a large clump and will typically reach about 1.2 m tall and 1 m wide. In cold environments the plants may die back during winter to regrow again in spring. Canna Lilies grow best on a well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade though they are generally tolerant of cold environments and wet soils. Canna Merle Cole is commonly used in tropical gardens, grown in a container, planted alongside water features, added to mixed plantings, or included in wetter areas. A mass planting is very rewarding.
