Arctotis 'Red Magic'

How to grow Arctotis 'Red Magic' in NZ

Arctotis 'Red Magic' grows best in full sun and free draining soil, thriving in warm and dry environments across New Zealand. Choose a sunny, open site to support abundant flowering and strong growth. Avoid heavy or waterlogged soils, as Arctotis prefers lean, dry ground. Water during establishment, then reduce watering once mature. It is well suited to coastal, inland, and exposed garden locations.

Arctotis 'Red Magic' care tips

Arctotis 'Red Magic' is naturally low care and ideal for gardeners wanting easy colour. Remove spent blooms regularly to encourage continuous flowering throughout the warmer months. Trim lightly if plants become stretched or uneven. Avoid excessive fertiliser and watering, as these reduce flowering performance. It is generally pest and disease resistant, making it a reliable low maintenance option.

Arctotis 'Red Magic' size, spacing, and growth rate

Arctotis 'Red Magic' typically grows twenty to thirty centimetres high and spreads up to fifty centimetres wide. Its spreading, mat forming habit makes it excellent for ground cover or infilling open garden spaces. Space plants forty to fifty centimetres apart to allow for natural spreading. It grows quickly in warm conditions and forms a dense canopy that helps suppress weeds.

Landscaping uses for Arctotis 'Red Magic'

Arctotis 'Red Magic' is perfect for sunny borders, rockeries, slopes, and coastal gardens. Its deep red blooms create strong contrast when paired with grasses, succulents, silver foliage plants, and other drought tolerant species. It excels in hot, exposed locations such as driveways and sloping areas. This variety is also ideal for mass planting where dramatic seasonal colour is desired.
