Arctotis 'Purple'

How to grow Arctotis 'Purple' in NZ

Arctotis 'Purple' grows best in full sun and free draining soil, performing strongly in warm and dry environments. Choose a bright, open site that receives plenty of sunlight to encourage compact growth and abundant flowering. Avoid heavy or waterlogged soils, as Arctotis prefers lean, dry ground. Water during establishment, then reduce watering as the plant matures. It thrives across coastal, inland, and exposed areas throughout New Zealand.

Arctotis 'Purple' care tips

Arctotis 'Purple' is easy to maintain thanks to its naturally tough growth habit. Remove spent flowers to encourage continued blooming through the warmer months. Trim lightly if the plant becomes leggy or uneven. Avoid heavy fertiliser and excessive watering, as these reduce flowering performance. It is naturally pest and disease resistant, making it ideal for low care plantings.

Arctotis 'Purple' size, spacing, and growth rate

Arctotis 'Purple' typically grows twenty to thirty centimetres tall and spreads up to fifty centimetres wide. Its spreading, mat forming habit makes it ideal for ground cover or filling gaps between larger plants. Space plants forty to fifty centimetres apart to allow for natural spread. It grows quickly in warm conditions and forms a dense mat that helps suppress weeds.

Landscaping uses for Arctotis 'Purple'

Arctotis 'Purple' is perfect for adding bold colour to sunny borders, banks, rockeries, and dry landscapes. Its rich purple blooms pair beautifully with grasses, succulents, silver foliage plants, and other drought tolerant species. It thrives in hot, exposed spaces including driveways and sloping areas. This variety is also excellent for mass planting to create a dramatic, long lasting display.
