Elephant Ear
Alocasia nigrescens is an herbaceous perennial that is grown for its impressive, arrow shaped foliage. The leaves are large, black-green in colour, and are held on dark purple-black stems. It typically grows to 1.2 m tall and 1 m wide, performing best on a well-drained, frost free, sheltered site in full sun or partial shade. It may die back in winter but will regrow again in the spring. It is commonly used in mixed plantings, maintained in a container, added to tropical plantings, or used to plant around larger trees and shrubs. A mass planting will produce an outstanding display.
