Alocasia cucullata, commonly known as the Chinese Taro, this is an herbaceous perennial grown for its impressive, glossy foliage. The dark green leaves will grow to about 20 cm long and the overall plant will reach about 70 cm tall and 1 m wide. Best growth is achieved when it is planted on a well-drained, sheltered site in full sun or partial shade protected from frost. Chinese Taro is commonly included in mixed plantings, grown in a container, used in tropical gardens, or planted at the base of larger trees and shrubs. It also makes for a fabulous indoor plant if you have the room.
