Agapanthus praecox Details

Agapanthus praecox produces large and showy clusters of blue flowers on slender stems through spring and summer. The dark green, strap like foliage provides a lovely backdrop to the flowers. This herbaceous perennial grows as a tidy clump to about 80 cm tall and the same wide, growing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It will tolerate frost, cool climates, dry periods, heavy soils, and coastal conditions. Agapanthus praecox is a versatile plant that can be used as a low maintenance option on drier sites or in situations with poor soil conditions such as clay banks. It is also well suited to using in borders or mixed plantings, mass planting as a groundcover, or including in cottage gardens. The most stunning displays with this plant are achieved when it is mass planted.
