Actaea pachypoda, commonly known as White Baneberry or Dolls Eyes, is an herbaceous perennial that features lush foliage and unusual looking berries. It produces clusters of small, fluffy, white flowers on red stems from spring through early summer. The flowers result in globular, white berries in summer. NB: the berries are toxic. The foliage comprises finely divided, bright green leaves which provides a great backdrop to the flowers. It typically grows to 50 cm tall and 70 cm wide, performing best in full sun on a well-drained site with good summer moisture. It is tolerant of light frost, coastal environments, and reasonable shade. Actaea pachypoda is commonly used in borders, mixed plantings, cottage gardens, or planted around the base of larger trees and shrubs. It is a great plant for adding interest.
