Actaea Hillside Black Beauty is a variety of the commonly known, Snakeroot, and is grown for its impressive flowers and foliage. This herbaceous perennial produces scented, bottlebrush-like, pale pink flowers on slender stems which rise above the foliage from summer through autumn. The foliage comprises lush, dark red-purple leaves which provides a great contrast to the flowers. It typically grows to 1.2 m tall and 1.5 m wide, performing best in full sun on a well-drained site with good summer moisture. It is tolerant of light frost, coastal environments, and partial shade though in this instance leaf colouring will be less intense.
