Achillea 'Coronation Gold'

How to grow Achillea 'Coronation Gold' in NZ

Growing Achillea 'Coronation Gold' in NZ is easy and rewarding. It thrives in full sun and well drained soil, performing best in drier conditions once established. Avoid heavy, wet soils that can cause root issues. Water regularly while young, then only during extended dry spells. This variety suits coastal, cottage, or dry garden styles and adds excellent resilience and colour to NZ's sunny landscapes. Set the plant at its original nursery depth and water the surrounding soil thoroughly after planting.

Achillea 'Coronation Gold' care tips

Achillea 'Coronation Gold' is very low maintenance. Remove spent flowers to extend the blooming season and maintain tidy growth. Cut back to ground level in late winter or early spring to refresh the plant. A light feed with a general purpose fertiliser in spring encourages vigorous growth and strong flower production. This variety resists most pests and diseases, making it one of the easiest perennials to care for in NZ. Keep maintenance practical and consistent so the plant remains attractive as it develops.

Achillea 'Coronation Gold' size, spacing, and growth rate

Achillea 'Coronation Gold' typically grows 0.7 to 0.9 m tall and 0.5 to 0.6 m wide. Space plants around 0.5 m apart to allow room for mature growth and good airflow. It has a moderate to fast growth rate and quickly forms neat, attractive clumps. The strong flower stems make it excellent for cut or dried arrangements, while its spreading habit ensures a bold, colourful presence in garden borders and mass plantings. Allow access for routine maintenance without crowding the developing roots or foliage.

Landscaping uses for Achillea 'Coronation Gold'

Achillea 'Coronation Gold' is perfect for adding bright, long lasting colour to borders, cottage gardens, and wildflower plantings. It pairs beautifully with lavender, salvia, or ornamental grasses. Its drought tolerance makes it ideal for low maintenance or coastal landscapes. The vibrant yellow flowers contrast stunningly against grey foliage plants and are excellent for attracting pollinators while providing structure and texture year round. Repeat it through the planting to create a coherent display, or use a single specimen as a focal point.
