Commonly known as the Chinese Windmill Palm, this is a large Palm Tree grown for its showy foliage. It grows with a stout and fibre-covered trunk bearing fan-shaped, dark green leaves that are up to 1 m wide. Small yellow flowers are produced in summer on arching stems and are followed by blue-black berries. It typically grows to 12 m tall and 5 m wide, performing best when grown on a well-drained site in full sun or partial shade. It is tolerant of dry periods, coastal conditions, and moderate frost. The Chinese Windmill Palm makes for a handsome specimen and is commonly used to line entranceways or avenues, added to a mixed planting, or included in tropical gardens.
