Phoenix sylvestris Details

Phoenix sylvestris, commonly known as Silver Date Palm, Indian Date Palm, or Sugar Date Palm, is a large Palm tree that may reach 12 m tall and 6 m wide. The fronds are feathery in appearance, about 3 m long, and have a graceful arch. Orange fruits are produced in autumn amidst the foliage which originate from small, white blossoms in spring. It is typically grown in subtropical or mild climates but it will tolerate light frost once established and grows across a wide range of soil conditions. Phoenix sylvestris makes a lovely specimen and is often included in tropical plantings, or added to a mixed planting.
