Phoenix canariensis, commonly known as the Canary Island Date Palm, Pineapple Palm, or Slender Date Palm, features feather-like leaves that are a 4–6 m long. The foliage is held as a crown atop a solitary trunk and it can grow to 20 m tall and 8 m wide. Phoenix canariensis is commonly grown as a specimen, used to line a driveway or avenue, added to a tropical garden, or included in a mixed planting with larger trees and shrubs.

Phoenix canariensis Details

Phoenix canariensis, commonly known as the Canary Island Date Palm, Pineapple Palm, or Slender Date Palm, is a large Palm tree that may reach 20 m tall and 8 m wide. The leaves are feather-like in appearance, 4–6 m long, and held as a crown atop a solitary trunk. Yellow-orange fruits are produced in autumn amidst the foliage which attract birds. This Palm tree grows best in full sun on a well-drained site. It is typically grown in subtropical climates but will tolerate light frost once established. Phoenix canariensis is commonly grown as a specimen, used to line a driveway or avenue, added to a tropical garden, or included in a mixed planting with larger trees and shrubs.
