Chamaerops humilis, commonly known as the European Fan Palm, Dwarf Fan Palm, Mediterranean Dwarf Palm, or African Hair Palm, grows as a large and spreading shrub. It often grows with several erect stems boasting canopies of dark green, fan shaped leaves. Short stems carrying clusters of yellow flowers are borne in summer and give rise to small, orange berries. It typically grows to 2.5 m tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is hardy to coastal environments, moderate frost, and dry periods.
