Liriope muscari ‘variegata’, commonly known as Lilyturf, is grown for its lovely flowers and colourful foliage. This herbaceous perennial grows as a clump and produces strap like leaves that are green with a prominent cream edge. Short stems rise amidst the foliage carrying masses of purple flowers during summer and autumn. The flowers are long lasting and complement the foliage beautifully. It typically grows to 30 cm tall and the same wide, growing best in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of cool climates, moderate frost, dry periods, and coastal environments. It may die back during winter in colder regions to regrow in spring when conditions warm, but otherwise remains evergreen.
