Libertia mooreae, commonly known as the NZ Iris, is a NZ native grown for its beautiful, white flower spikes which stand above the foliage. The flowers in spring result in attractive, green seed capsules. The foliage comprises short, erect, green leaves with yellow veins. It grows as a clump to about to 40 cm tall and the same wide but will colonise a larger area with its spreading roots. Best performance with this plant is achieved when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. Libertia mooreae is tolerant of coastal conditions, cool climates, and a range of soil conditions. The NZ Iris is commonly mass planted, added to a mixed planting, used in borders, planted around the base of a larger tree, added to “white” gardens, or used in cottage gardens.
