Leafless Rush

Juncus australis, commonly known as the Leafless Rush, features long, dark green leaves held densely. The foliage is complemented with brown flower stems during summer as it grows to about 1 m tall and 70 cm wide. Juncus australis is ideal for wetland revegetation, riparian plantings, or planting around ponds and streams. It is also suited to urban planting where it works well in borders, mixed plantings, or anywhere a hardy and durable plant is required, particularly for wetter areas.

What are the benefits of Juncus australis?

Juncus australis, commonly known as austral rush, offers several ecological and practical benefits, particularly in wetland and riparian settings. It is highly effective for erosion control due to its dense, fibrous root system that stabilises soil along waterways, wetlands, and drainage areas. This native New Zealand and Australian species is well adapted to waterlogged, saline, and nutrient-poor soils, making it ideal for coastal, estuarine, and restoration projects.
