Carex testacea, commonly known as Orange Sedge, is a highly popular, NZ native, ornamental grass with foliage that creates wispy movements in the wind. This tussock-like grass bears rich, orange-bronze leaves as it grows to 50 cm tall and the same wide. It is a hardy plant that is suitable for most soil conditions, barring extreme wet and dry, and tolerates dry periods, frost, wind, cool climates, and coastal conditions. Carex testacea is commonly used in coastal or rock gardens, included in borders or mixed plantings, mass planted either as a groundcover or on a bank, or simply grown in a container.
