Carex geminata is a hardy, NZ native grass featuring slender, green foliage and an amazing ability to grow in wet areas. The fresh green foliage has a graceful arch with a sharp edge and is produced on a plant that typically grows to 1 m tall and the same wide. It will colonise a much larger area over time as its creeping roots take hold, particularly in wet areas. Not surprisingly, it grows best in full sun on wet soils, and is tolerant of moderate frost, wind, and cool climates. This Carex is commonly used for environmental planting like establishing or restoring wetland areas or growing around pond and stream margins. It is also suitable for including in a mixed planting on better soils.
