Commonly known as the Pine Nut, this is an attractive tree that has a variety of uses including the production of nuts. It grows with an upright and spreading habit with short, grey-green needles. Pine cones are produced when the tree is about six years old and within these cones are the edible nuts. This evergreen will eventually reach 10 m tall and 6 m wide, and performs best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of dry periods, cool climates, coastal environments, and frost. The Pine Nut is commonly grown as a specimen with the added bonus of the tasty nuts.
