Phalaenopsis Orchid

Commonly known as the Moth Orchid, this is a popular variety owing to its beautiful flowers and ease to grow. For most of the year it carries long stems with showy and colourful blooms. The foliage comprises large and rounded green leaves, nestled neatly at the base of the flower stem. They typically grow to just 20 cm wide and 35 cm tall (with the flower), performing best when positioned in very well-drained media that does not dry out, along with moderate light levels. Drafty and cold positions are not ideal for orchids. However, they do require a few cool nights to initiate more flower spikes and this is best done in early autumn. Moth Orchids make wonderful indoor plants and office décor. They can be included in tropical gardens where conditions are suitable.
