Nephrolepis 'Boston Blue Bell'

How to grow Nephrolepis 'Boston Blue Bell' in NZ

Grow Nephrolepis 'Boston Blue Bell' in bright filtered light or sheltered shade, using a moisture retaining mix that drains freely. Choose a position away from drying wind, heaters, and strong afternoon sun. Plant at the original depth and water well. Keep moisture consistent as new fronds develop. In containers, use drainage holes and avoid standing water in saucers. Shelter outdoor plants from frost where needed and provide comfortable humidity for indoor specimens.

Nephrolepis 'Boston Blue Bell' care tips

Care for Nephrolepis 'Boston Blue Bell' by matching moisture and feeding to its growing season. Keep the root zone evenly moist without leaving it waterlogged. Check container plants frequently during warm weather and protect fronds from drying draughts. Feed lightly during spring and summer with a diluted liquid fertiliser. Remove brown or damaged fronds close to their base. Check for pests and reduce watering slightly in winter while preventing complete drying.

Nephrolepis 'Boston Blue Bell' size, spacing, and growth rate

Nephrolepis 'Boston Blue Bell' typically reaches about 30 cm tall and 40 cm wide under suitable conditions. For individual plants, allow about 40 cm between centres to give the foliage space without excessive crowding. It has a moderate growth rate under suitable conditions. Final size varies with climate, soil, container size, and maintenance. Choose a container that supports the roots without excessive unused wet mix, and leave space around the display for airflow. Check the developing plant regularly and adjust nearby planting as its natural form becomes clearer.
